Struggling to fit in because of her mixed-race heritage, 16-year-old Scotch is baffled when her skin becomes covered by a sticky black substance that cannot be removed at the same time her brother is swallowed up by a mysterious bubble of light and their town is overcome by a malevolent supernatural force.
